SUMMARY:Healthy Hive Foundation: Talking Bees Roadshow
DESCRIPTION:The traveling education program “Talking Bees Roadshow” is presented by H-E-B\, in partnership with Healthy Hive Foundation to provide free bee education across Texas. These high-impact talks for all ages are made possible through a grant from H-E-B’s Our Texas Our Future Program. \nJoin us September 2023 through June 2024 for our first Talking Bees Roadshow\, coming to greater Dallas\, Houston\, San Antonio and Austin area public libraries. Certified Master Beekeeper\, Konrad Bouffard of Round Rock Honey will teach the sessions. There will be door prizes and fun giveaways! \nYou will:\n\nIdentify pollens and nectars in honey by taste;\nLearn how bees make honey; and\nDiscover meaningful ways to save the bee.\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nCities & Dates\nWe’re headed to a Texas public library near you!\nCheck back periodically as we add more cities and dates for Austin\, Houston and San Antonio areas. SUMMARY:Houston Grand Opra: Giving Voice - (Houston)
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, March 8\, 2024\, Houston Grand Opera will stage the fifth annual Giving Voice concert in partnership with Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. The concert will be presented at the historic Third Ward church for the second year running. \nThis year\, the Giving Voice concert series\, created in 2019 by American tenor Lawrence Brownlee\, will highlight the artistry and contributions of Black women in opera and the Houston community. The event\, to be held on International Women’s Day\, will also mark Women’s History Month\, which will be celebrated throughout March. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHosted by ABC13 journalist and WABC congregant Melanie Lawson\, Giving Voice will feature arias sung by operatic soloists\, including mezzo-soprano and HGO honoree Marietta Simpson; Grammy Award-winning soprano Latonia Moore; tenor Limmie Pulliam; baritone Justin Austin; and two current members of HGO’s Butler Studio\, soprano Renée Richardson and tenor Demetrious Sampson\, Jr. \nThe concert will feature choral works by a mass choir of singers from WABC\, the Houston Ebony Opera Guild\, and HGO\, as well as a special performance from Houston’s emerging spiritual ensemble\, Voices of Houston. It will also bring the world premiere of songs by HGO Composer in Residence Joel Thompson.
