SUMMARY:Holocaust Museum Houston: The Green Book\,
DESCRIPTION:The history of The Green Book\, the annual guide created in 1936 by Harlem postman Victor Green that provided African American travelers with information on restaurants\, gas stations\, department stores and other businesses that welcomed Black travelers during the era of Jim Crow\, are highlighted in The Negro Motorist Green Book\, an exhibition developed by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) in collaboration with award-winning author\, photographer\, and cultural documentarian\, Candacy Taylor. The exhibition\, made possible through the support of Exxon Mobil Corporation\, will be on view in Holocaust Museum Houston’s Josef and Edith Mincberg Gallery from September 1 through November 26\, 2023. \nThe Negro Motorist Green Book offers an immersive look at the reality of travel for African Americans in mid-century America and how the annual guide served as an indispensable resource for the nation’s rising African American middle class. The exhibition includes artifacts from business signs and postcards to historic footage\, images\, and firsthand accounts to convey not only the apprehension felt by African-American travelers but also the resilience\, innovation and elegance of people choosing to live a full American existence. It brings focus to a vibrant parallel world of African American businesses\, the rise of the black leisure class in the United States and the important role The Green Book played in facilitating the second wave of the Great Migration. \nThe Negro Motorist Green Book was created by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service in collaboration with Candacy Taylor and made possible through the generous support of ExxonMobil. \nGet Tickets \n

SUMMARY:San Antonio Neighbors Together
DESCRIPTION:San Antonio Neighbors Together is an annual event held on the first Tuesday of October each year. The event focuses on strengthening relationships between local police and the communities they serve. At these events\, neighborhoods connect with City departments and learn tips on crime prevention. \nResidents are often unaware of the variety of services and events that the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) offers to help educate communities. This event can help the police inform communities of what’s going on in their neighborhoods. \nGet Involved\nAll types of community groups are encouraged to participate in San Antonio Neighbors Together. To get involved\, talk to your neighbors about crime issues in your neighborhood\, and register with us for more information. \nSan Antonio Neighbors Together events can be as big or small as you want. They can be as simple as inviting a few neighbors over and discussing the importance of leaving porch lights on at night to deter criminals. The best crime fighting tool is often community involvement. \nDates\nSan Antonio Neighbors Together is held annually on the first Tuesday in October. Start planning as early as possible in the year as you can. The 2023 event will be held on Tuesday\, October 3. \nNOTE: 2023 Events must be registered by Friday\, September 8\, 2023 to be eligible for full SAPD support. \nLearn more

SUMMARY:Artpace: Chalk It Up - (San Antonio)

On Saturday\, October 14\, Artpace Chalk It Up will welcome the community back to Houston Street for our 20th Anniversary festival to collaborate on large-scale chalk murals\, participate in educational art activities\, and meet artists working in our community.
