H-E-B launched the Read 3 program in 2011 to promote good reading habits at home. The Read 3 program encourages parents to read to their young children at least three times a week so that they are better prepared to start school ready to read.  Each year, H-E-B supports literacy in our communites by supporting public libraries, schools, and literacy organizations through book donations, volunteer hours, and monetary gifts. Through the years,  more than 6 million books have been donated to children across Texas at our Feast of Sharing events, community fairs, book festivals, at schools, and in our stores.

Each September, Read 3 celebrates National Literacy Month by hosting our Big Texas Read In. Annually more than 100,000 students across Texas join us by stopping and reading all together, at the same time across our state.
