Explore animals at the Bullock Museum this winter as we feature the IMAX® documentary film Animal Kingdom! Join us to discover the ways animals interact with each other and with humans in Texas and across the world. Enjoy hands-on crafts and activities that explore the roles animals play in their communities and how animal behaviors impact the world.
Museum admission is free for homeschool families and RSVPs are not required. Discounted school group rates for films in the IMAX Theatre and Texas Spirit Theater are available from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; film tickets may be purchased in advance online and at the Museum on Homeschool Day.
Directions and Parking Information
Attend special hands-on activities between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
- 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Make your own water color sea turtle and discover some of the species of sea turtles that call Texas home in this special paid class.
- 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Talk to a Museum Curator about an animal-themed artifact and the role it played in Texas’s history.
- 11:30 a.m. Enjoy a story time about an Australian wombat who is a little too curious for her own good. Then, make your own wombat puppet!
- 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Paint your own birdhouse in a special paid class with a birding expert.
Drop in anytime between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for activities, resources, and exhibitions
- Build a beaver hat as you examine the role beavers play as a keystone species in Texas and hear about how this remarkable mammal changed Texas’s history.
- Use a hands-on model to untangle food webs and organize food chains from three regions of Texas.
- Assemble your own birdwatching guidebook filled with birds you can see across Texas.
- Discover the world of being an apex predator and build your own refrigerator magnet version of one of Texas’s most iconic predators: the American Alligator.
- Enjoy a picture book about animals at a “drop everything and read” station.
- Explore animal-related crafts and activities with community partners.
- Buy tickets to see IMAX documentaries Train Time, Animal Kingdom, Lasting Impressions, and Ancient Caves and tickets to the Texas Spirit Theater films Shipwrecked and Star of Destiny.
- Explore Museum exhibitions with educational activity guides.
Available Classes
Hands-on classes give your students an opportunity to spend more time exploring topics that relate to the art and culture of the numerous communities and cultures in Texas.
Classes are $10 per student. Accompanying adults do not need tickets. Due to demand and class capacity, reservations are recommended. On the morning of Homeschool Day, online class registration will close, but tickets can be purchased at the Museum while available. See class information and tickets below.
