Plans underway to celebrate the new season and continued partnership with community activations and giveaways
Building on a more than two-decade long partnership, H-E-B and the San Antonio Spurs have teamed up again for another round of beloved commercials and a series of community outreach events to tip-off a new season. This year’s entertaining commercials are filled with the playful humor fans have come to expect and feature a familiar lineup of Spurs stars, including some new faces.
On Saturday, Oct. 18, days before the season opener, H-E-B released its first commercial, titled “The List.” In the spot, De’Aaron Fox, who makes his first appearance in the commercials, tells Victor Wembanyama he’s making a trip to H-E-B and asks if he needs anything. Quick to respond, the Spurs power forward says he could use a few things and rolls out an oversized, never-ending list that passes by a few teammates as it unfurls and has the Spurs Coyote running for cover. Despite the far-reaching list, a couple of items are missing and need to be added, of course.
The second commercial, which will launch in the coming months, has some South Texas flair and will feature Wembanyama and Fox alongside another commercial first timer, Stephon Castle.
As the commercials are released, fans can catch the spots on H-E-B’s YouTube page and its other social media platforms. The commercials will be televised throughout the season in the San Antonio and Austin areas as well as other select cities in South Texas.
“Each year, we look forward to partnering with the Spurs on these playful commercials as a way to entertain our fans at the start of the season,” said Ashwin Nathan, H-E-B Group Vice President of Marketing. “Beyond collaborating on these fun television spots, we are grateful to work alongside an organization that shares our deep commitment to support communities throughout San Antonio and across the state.”
To celebrate the new season and their more than 20-year partnership, H-E-B and the San Antonio Spurs have plans for some fun community outreach activations. Starting the season’s opening week, the retailer and the Spurs will give out regular-season game tickets, co-branded swag, and other prizes to lucky fans in the Alamo City. During the season, the two brands will continue to activate other experiences in-arena during games and throughout the San Antonio community and at H-E-B stores.
“This partnership has produced decades worth of laughs, joy and memorable experiences for our shared H-E-B and Spurs community,” said Becky Kimbro, Senior Vice President of Brand Engagement for the Spurs. “As two longstanding local brands, a love of our shared San Antonio roots and South Texas community is what drives our work together, and we feel grateful each season to share these moments of fun and fandom with our community, through such an iconic commercial series.”
This longstanding collaboration started in 2004 when H-E-B and the Spurs launched the first commercial in the annual series, which has starred several fan-favorite players and H-E-B products along the way. Since then, H-E-B and Spurs Sports & Entertainment have joined together in numerous community investment projects and provided Spurs fans and H-E-B customers with player appearances and fan appreciation events throughout the year.
