H-E-B’s beloved Houston Astros commercials are back, this time featuring some over-the-top theatrical flair. With a script straight from a Spanish novela, the commercial includes a familiar quartet dressed to impress in their own melodramatic performance fit for daytime TV.
The spots star teammates Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Lance McCullers, and Jeremy Peña. The most recent commercial, is a Spanish-language spot, which is titled “El Derecho de Comer (The Right to Eat).” The team’s mascot, Orbit, also makes an appearance.
In the commercial, the teammates give an exaggerated performance when they find out their favorite H-E-B brand items have been eaten by an unknown offender. Sneaking away, an eye-patch wearing Orbit, who plays Comet, the mascot’s evil cousin, is the absconding culprit. As Bregman, McCullers and Peña cry to the heavens in slow-motion, lamenting their missing Creamy Creations ice cream and H-E-B Bakery tortillas, the spot switches to a napping Altuve. Awaking from his slumber confused, the second baseman realizes he was dreaming the entire soap opera … or was he (insert suspenseful music)?
“At H-E-B, we’re always looking for fun ways to entertain our fans, and for this year’s Astros commercial, we’re taking the performance to an overly dramatic level,” said Ashwin Nathan,
H-E-B Group Vice President of Marketing. “We’ve enjoyed teaming up with the Astros organization for these spots, which have become favorites for our loyal customers and committed Astros fans.”
The 60- and 30-second spots will air on television in select markets in Texas. Fans can catch all commercials on H-E-B’s YouTube page and its other social media platforms. The spot will only air in Spanish but will include English subtitles on non-Spanish language television stations and on social media.
