Central Market donates truckloads of cereal to Plano food pantry

Committed to fighting hunger this summer, Central Market will donate two truckloads of cereal to Minnie’s Food Pantry in time for its annual summer feeding event.

Two truckloads of Hill Country Fare Cornflakes were unloaded on May 29 at Minnie’s Food Pantry ( 3033 W. Parker Rd. #116 in Plano), for its annual Summer LaUNCH Event on June 2. Additionally, Central Market made a $15,000 monetary donation to benefit the nonprofit organization.

“With children out of school, the need for food grows during the summer break,” said Mabrie Jackson, Central Market Director of Public Affairs. “Central Market is committed to supporting our communities, and this cereal donation will provide necessary nutrition to kids and families throughout the summer.”

The USDA reports that one in seven Texas households, or 1.4 million Texas households, faced the threat of hunger from 2014-2016. Additionally, it’s estimated that one in four children in Texas faces the threat of hunger.

“Through our Summer LaUNCH Event, Minnie’s Food Pantry provides food items to help families make it through the summer,” said Minnie’s Food Pantry founder Dr. Cheryl Jackson. “We are grateful Central Market is sponsoring the event and making sure that every person receives healthy breakfast meals to wake up to every morning until school is back in session.”
