H-E-B gives $1 million to support childcare initiatives in San Antonio

As many Texans face childcare challenges, H-E-B made a $1 million donation to support local nonprofits working to make childcare more affordable and accessible for families in San Antonio.

The $1 million commitment supports five nonprofits in San Antonio for programming that focuses on after-school care, early childhood education, and other related services. Organizations that received funding are Family Service Association of San Antonio, Good Samaritan Community ServicesThe Madonna CenterRespite Care of San Antonio, and the YMCA of Greater San Antonio. For the donation, funding came from H-E-B and the H-E-B Tournament of Champions Charitable Trust.

“Challenges around childcare affect too many families in Texas, and H-E-B is deeply committed to doing what we can to help uplift our communities,” said Monica Garza, H-E-B Public Affairs. “We hope our support of these dedicated nonprofits will help strengthen their mission to improve access and affordability for childcare in San Antonio.”

In San Antonio and across the state, families struggle to find affordable, quality childcare, which has a direct impact on individual families, the childcare industry, and the greater economy in Texas.

“We are thankful that H-E-B recognizes its importance as a foundational platform for children and families and is investing in supporting us in our comprehensive work to address these needs in our communities,” said Mary E. Garr, President and CEO of Family Service. “The mission of Family Service is all about helping children and families have opportunities to thrive and excel. A high-quality early childhood education and development experience is critical to setting up a child for a lifetime of success and good health.”

H-E-B remains committed to support nonprofits working to improve access to affordable childcare options for Texas families.
