The H-E-B Tournament of Champions, one of the largest charitable events in the nation, broke a fundraising record in support of Texas nonprofits. Through the charitable contributions of nearly 650 companies, more than $18.5 million was raised in the annual event’s 41st year.
In 1986, the H-E-B Tournament of Champions began as a golf tournament to raise money for Special Olympics Texas. Since then, the charitable trust has raised more than $213 million for hundreds of nonprofit organizations across Texas.

In the H-E-B Tournament of Champions tradition, H-E-B’s suppliers partnered with the company to support nonprofit organizations focused on children and families in Texas. In addition to business meetings and information sessions, participants volunteered at four San Antonio nonprofit organizations throughout the week-long event. Four charity work sites were held to support the San Antonio Food Bank, Special Olympics, San Antonio River Foundation and Homes for Our Troops. More than 2,100 volunteers helped with renovation projects and beautification efforts in one of the largest volunteer initiatives in the city.

“Life-changing transformations and meaningful community support are what drives the H-E-B Tournament of Champions and its mission,” said Winell Herron, H-E-B Senior Vice President of Public Affairs, Diversity and Environmental Affairs. “We’re thankful for our dedicated suppliers who share our passion for supporting Texas children and families.”

The two Veterans will receive the keys to their new homes in separate dedication ceremonies. The homes are equipped with accommodations such as wider hallways, lower countertops, automatic doors and roll-in showers. Through the H-E-B Tournament of Champions and H-E-B’s Operation Appreciation Homes Built for Heroes program, 61 homes have been given to veterans since the effort began in 2013.
