The Butt Family, H-E-B, and the H.E. Butt Foundation announce $5 million donation for Texas flood recovery efforts

In addition to monetary gift, H-E-B provides on-the-ground support in impacted communities

H-E-B is committed to providing our communities with immediate and long-term relief as efforts continue in response to the destructive floods that have devastated areas across Texas. While the situation is still in the early stages, the Butt family, H-E-B, and the H.E. Butt Foundation have committed $5 million in funding to nonprofits providing aid and recovery support to communities most in need. In addition, H-E-B is providing on-the-ground meals, volunteers, product, and support to impacted areas.

“For 120 years, the Butt family has proudly called Kerrville home,” said Howard Butt III, H-E-B CEO. “Our hearts ache for the children, families, and communities facing tremendous loss throughout Texas in the wake of these floods. Our Partners have big hearts, and we will continue to support our neighbors. H-E-B and our dedicated Partners are here to help.”

Among this giving, $2 million will be gifted to the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country to support its Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. Established in the wake of the recent disaster, the fund supports organizations providing rescue, relief, and recovery efforts as well as flood assistance to the communities of Hunt, Ingram, Kerrville, Center Point, and Comfort.

To further meet immediate needs, H-E-B also committed gifts to multiple nonprofits that are providing direct support including the American Red Cross, Texas Search and Rescue (TEXSAR), and the Salvation Army. Additionally, the retailer is distributing gift cards throughout impacted communities and to nonprofits such as the United Way of Concho Valley in San Angelo and school districts including Ingram ISD.

“Since 1905 our family has built a deep connection to Kerrville and the communities of the Hill Country where our company began.” said Stephen Butt, H-E-B President of Shareholder Relations. “Our founder Florence Butt was known for sharing food with those in need on the banks of the Guadalupe River. Her commitment to serving others inspired H-E-B’s Spirit of Giving which is a cornerstone of our company. Today we are proud to continue her legacy and stand with great resolve to help our communities as they begin to recover.”

In the days following the major flooding, H-E-B deployed its Mobile Kitchen to Ingram and distributed additional provisions including cleaning supplies and gift cards to support areas such as Center Point and Hunt. Partner (employee) volunteers from across the company are also serving other hard-hit communities throughout the state. Groups of Partners are providing meals, gift cards, food, water, and cleaning materials in flood-affected areas of Burnet, Georgetown, Leander, Liberty Hill, Marble Falls, San Angelo, and more.

Additionally, H-E-B launched its check stand donation campaign which allows customers to donate at checkout when shopping in-store and online. All funds collected will be distributed to nonprofits supporting victims in impacted counties. To back the effort, Favor Delivery, which committed funds to the donation campaign, is also accepting donations on its platform when customers place delivery orders.

As a people company, H-E-B continues to work closely with impacted Partners offering aid such as counseling and financial assistance.

H-E-B holds compassion and strength for our fellow Texans. In the coming weeks and months, H-E-B will stay close to impacted communities and provide ongoing support throughout the recovery process.
