The store will remain fully operational as upgrades to the store’s exterior and expanded departments are underway.
With several significant upgrades already in the works inside the 35 and Calton H-E-B in Laredo, another major remodel is on the way, this time, to the store’s exterior. The major project will refresh and modernize the store, reaffirming H‑E‑B’s continued commitment to invest in Laredo, a community the retailer has proudly been a part of for decades.
Earlier this year, H-E-B began the comprehensive project to the store’s interior, which was done to enhance the shopping experience for customers and support an expanded product assortment. As some interior work continues, much of the project includes equipment upgrades such as the addition of new HVAC system and refrigeration coolers and cases. Other updates involve remodeling and expanding multiple departments such as the store’s Meat Market as well as the Deli, Seafood, Pharmacy, and Blooms floral departments. A Healthy Living section was recently added to provide bulk food items, sports nutrition products, and supplements. An expanded Sushiya area also will be added, which will now include Asian grill items such as noodle and rice bowls.
Construction on the exterior began in early August, a project that could take a few months to complete. Work will consist of completely updating the entryways and modernizing the façade, allowing for more natural light and creating a more welcoming experience. Additional upgrades will be made to the parking lot to make room for more parking spaces. While some renovations have already started, most of the work will start in September and be completed by Spring 2027.
Plans for the exterior also include the removal of the store’s tent, which has reached its lifespan after more than three decades in service. It will be replaced by a metal canopy that will keep the sidewalk shaded along the entryway and will create more space in the parking lot to help improve traffic flow.
During renovation work, the store will remain fully operational, continuing to provide customers with the high‑quality service and products they expect from H‑E‑B. Additional updates will be shared as the project progresses.
