H-E-B Excellence in Education Presents a Tribute to Texas Teachers

The H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards program will host a virtual Tribute to Texas Teachers on May 8 at 6 p.m., with a replay at 10 p.m. The Tribute to Texas Teachers will be available on statewide TEGNA stations and simulcast on Facebook. Hosted by H-E-B Group Vice President for Public Affairs, Environmental Affairs and Diversity Winell Herron and H-E-B Chief Merchant Scott Mitchell, the Tribute to Texas Teachers will feature celebrity appearances, educator recognitions, and $100,000 in cash prize giveaways.

Throughout the past month, all certified Texas public school teachers, principals, and public school districts, as well as public or private early childhood education centers were encouraged to visit texaslovesteachers.com to enter for a chance to win a share of the $100,000 in cash prizes. During the Tribute to Texas Teachers, the public school district with the most entries will win $20,000, while the early childhood education center with the most entries will receive $10,000. The remaining $70,000 will be split among randomly selected teachers and principals.

The Tribute to Texas Teachers will also highlight the continued partnership between H-E-B and #TeachersCan – a statewide movement led by teachers and supported by more than 125 businesses and organizations. United by the shared purpose of honoring the critical role that teachers play in the success of Texas, H-E-B is a proud supporter of #TeachersCan’s statewide fundraising initiative to fulfill the classroom wish lists of Texas teachers via the Donors Choose platform.

The Tribute to Texas Teachers is part of a year-long celebration of H-E-B Excellence in Education’s 20th anniversary. The celebration also included the Texas Loves Teachers Tour, which caravanned across Texas from late March through early May, hosting teacher appreciation events at 50 schools, school districts and early childhood education centers, as determined by public voting. The 20th anniversary celebration will culminate with the return of the traditional H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards program in 2022, which will award $430,000 to teachers, principals, school districts, school boards and early childhood education centers at a gala celebration in Austin, Texas on April 30 2022. Since the program’s inception in 2002, H-E-B has awarded more than $13 million in funding to benefit outstanding Texas public school districts, schools, school boards, early childhood facilities, teachers and principals.
