H-E-B starts construction on store in Allen

On May 25, H-E-B officially started construction on another location planned for the DFW Metroplex, breaking ground at the site of a new store in Allen. Set to open in Fall 2023, the new store will be located at the northwest corner of Exchange Parkway and State Highway 5 (Greenville Avenue) in Allen, across the street from Allen High School. This will be the company’s fourth location currently under construction in Collin County, which also includes stores in Frisco, Plano, and McKinney.

At 117,000 square feet, the H-E-B store, the company’s flagship format, will showcase all the quality products and innovative services H-E-B customers have come to love and expect.

Along with a world-class product assortment at H-E-B’s everyday low prices, the store will include a True Texas BBQ restaurant, which was named best barbecue chain in Texas by Texas Monthly and a top barbecue chain in the nation by Thrillist, as well as H-E-B Curbside and Home Delivery, which will allow customers to place orders online for pickup at the store or delivery to the home. Other features include a full-service H-E-B Pharmacy with two-lane drive-thru and Texas Backyard department, which offers outdoor essentials.

“We have been welcomed with open arms into the Collin County community,” said Juan-Carlos Rück, H-E-B Executive Vice President, North West Food/Drug Division. “We’re excited to become neighbors in another dynamic and growing North Texas city. We look forward to providing an outstanding shopping experience in Allen with the best H-E-B has to offer.”

In 2021, H-E-B announced its plans to open stores in Plano and Frisco, which are slated to open later this year. Earlier this year, H-E-B also broke ground on a store in McKinney.

Building on H-E-B’s longstanding presence in the area with its Central Market stores, the move reinforces the retailer’s commitment to serve more customers in this rapidly growing part of Texas. Regularly recognized as a top employer in the nation, H-E-B will offer positions that range from department managers to cashiers. It’s estimated that the Allen store will employ approximately 500 Partners (employees). H-E-B will post all job opportunities to the H-E-B Careers site in the coming months.

A proud Texas company, H-E-B’s presence in the Metroplex runs deep. As a multi-format retailer, H-E-B has served the broader community for two decades with its innovative Central Market stores, which were introduced to the DFW area in 2001 and serve customers in Dallas, Plano, Southlake, and Fort Worth. H-E-B stores also serve communities near the Metroplex including Burleson, Hudson Oaks, Granbury, and Waxahachie. Additionally, H-E-B’s fast and convenient Favor Delivery now serves 29 cities across the metro area.

“For years, the possibility of H-E-B’s expansion into Allen has been one of the most discussed and anticipated developments in our community,” said Allen Mayor Ken Fulk. “We’re delighted to finally celebrate their arrival—not only as a culinary destination, but as a corporate partner to local communities across Texas.”

Through its Spirit of Giving philosophy, H-E-B is passionately dedicated to its customers beyond its stores. In this spirit and to celebrate the groundbreaking of its new store, H-E-B gifted $50,000 to five local nonprofits located in Allen including the Allen Philharmonic, Allen Arts Alliance, Powered to Move, All Community Outreach and EXPOW (Exponential Power of Women). Each group was presented with a $10,000 check at the groundbreaking ceremony.

As part of its giving tradition, H-E-B commemorated the first three groundbreaking ceremonies with gifts totaling $150,000 to 15 nonprofits in Plano, Frisco, and McKinney. In Plano, H-E-B gifted $10,000 each to Emily’s Place, My Friend’s House, Friday Nite Friends, The Storehouse, and North Texas Performing Arts. In Frisco, $10,000 donations went to VFW Post 8273, Frisco FastPacs, Frisco Family Services, Frisco Arts Foundation, and Boys & Girls Club Frisco. In McKinney, each of the following organizations received $10,000 each: Seed Project Foundation, Love Life Foundation, Hugs Café, City Church, and Community Garden. These donations build on H-E-B’s support of more than 100 non-profit organizations and public schools in the DFW Metroplex.

“One of the true joys of being a part of the H-E-B team is getting to know local organizations doing great work in the communities in which we operate. We are pleased to be able to give back to five of these organizations making a difference in Allen,” said Mabrie Jackson, H-E-B Director of Public Affairs. “We look forward to continuing H-E-B’s spirit of giving commitment and serving our new neighbors starting now and well into the future.”

The largest privately held employer in Texas, H-E-B has more than 420 stores and 145,000 Partners in Texas and Mexico, and the retailer continues to be an economic driver as it expands in North Texas and other areas of the state.
